- Books and manuscripts with paper textblocks with a parchment covering
- Volumes that have accompanying documents or artefacts e.g previous binding fragments, additional textblocks that you want to be housed together

- Volumes that would benefit from additional support due to a wedge-shaped textblock head to tail or spine to fore-edge

- Other object types
Why choose this box? Do you have two (or more) objects that have been closely connected throughout their history and you want that physical and intellectual connection preserved?
- It permanently maintains the relationship between artefacts
- The additional item is smaller than the book
- Cockling and warping of the parchment elements, caused by environmental fluctuations are gently restricted by the pressure flap and the buffering capabilities of the box. This reduces physical strain within the binding and helps slow the rate of deterioration of the binding structure
- It gently restricts movement within the parchment sheet(s) helping to prolong the adhesion of illumination pigments to the parchment surface
- It initiates two-handed lifting of the contents from the box
Interior Adaptations:
- Right to left opening for Western books
- Left to right opening for Asian volumes
- The housing of multiple volumes of different sizes plus additional artefacts
- Drawer, lidded drawer, wrapper or phasebox
- Use of the pressure flap and base tray liner to secure the volume in order to allow additional space within the box so as not to crush binding elements such as a tawed skin girdle or fabric chemise
- Compensating wedge-shaped pressure flap to evenly support wedge-shaped volumes
- Tailored base tray lining
- Tailored textblock support to prevent textblock drag during vertical storage
