At Arca Preservation, our keen interest in the environment means that when we built our new, purpose designed studio in North Norfolk we took advice from a “passive house” designer. Consequently the timber clad building is super insulated with a green roof and designed to provide a stable internal environment requiring minimum energy input.
We keep an eye on opportunities to use archival and environmentally friendly materials and techniques and adopt those techniques when and where appropriate.
We have introduced the use of 100% recycled and recyclable acrylics for display supports where appropriate and providing a recycling service for display cradles, allowing us to return all our acrylic waste to the supplier for reuse.
All our paper and board waste is sent for recycling.
New techniques for the removal of stains from artefacts err on the side of natural products, low toxicity solvents and substances with biodegradable properties. These now form the majority of our chemical conservation treatments.
